More about Capital Car hire and Edinburgh Car&Van Rental

Two years ago I reported here about my abysmal experience with a car rental company here in Edinburgh and told people to not rent a car from Capital Car and Van hire. This rental outfit made a business of keeping my deposit and maxing out my credit card, claiming damage to the cars (which of course never happened).

Capital Car has now been officially warned by the City Council to "improve their services". Thomas McSweeney, David Sim and Karen Sim from Capital Car Hire have entered into an agreement with the council. It remains to be seen what is actually going to happen.

Is the problem getting worse? The same company operates another website. I just noticed that "Edinburgh Car&Van Rental" seems to be (a) new name for the same or a related company. As of 25/05/2007, the website Edinburghcarhire.com is registered by a David Sim with an e-mail address from capital-carhire.co.uk.

Be warned.

Dear David,
You are not the only one who's been a victim of Mr. Sim and his cronies' behaviour. Due to the state of his vans my husband and I were nearly killed when moving from Edinburgh to London a few years ago. One of the rear wheels fell off as we were overtaking a lorry and several guardian angels were working overtime that day... When I reported back to the company about the accident Mr Sim screamed at me down the phone that 'as far as I'm concerned you've ruined one of our fucking vans and we're gonna fucking get you'. It later turned out that the van was not even insured for road use, but as the accident happened in England and we'd walked out with bruises only the police wouldn't pursue the case. We never saw any money in spite of having taken out 'extra insurance' with Capital Car and Van Hire 'just in case'. Yeah. Sure. I hope they all burn in hell.

They are still at it. Just defrauded me 1000 gbp for a rental I have cancelled for July. They refuse to return the visa charge or to acknowledge my phone or email requests. Time for jail for these thieves.

Thirty Car rental in Haymarket. I use to work for them and I still rent with them 5 times a year.

Im so glad to see this site and to see that it wasn't just me and my partner that had trouble with this lot!!
We worked for Davie Sim for about 2 months, I was in the office and they use to tell me to hold off on returning peoples deposits which I thought was disgusting and I told them how I felt about the fact and business does not work that way.
We were on our OE from new Zealand and was our first time overseas and thought it would be a great time but Davie Sim's totally changed our thoughts on going to the UK again.
After mentioning to him that the things they were doing were dodgey and not right for a business to be acting that way he stopped paying my wages and my partners, saying it was our bank. We had no income on the other side of the world and he had no intension of paying us our 3 weeks wages.
I rang some people to try and help us and report what was going on and no one wanted to know about it.
So having gone through all that we had to use our savings back home and fly home right away as the threats were getting very heavy and scary.
I hope someone steps in and closes him down! It is not fear that he can get away with that carry on and still be trading.
