Americanization
On my quest to becoming a little more Americanized while still proudly showing some European heritage (which American doesn't?), I practiced some classic American traditions this past weekend. My pumpkin turned out to be a 2008 design, which my new friends claimed to be scary in its own right. (My 2007 design was a classic, two-toothed beast.)
As far as university life goes, the Carnegie Mellon campus turned out to be friendly, if not quirkier than what I've seen at other universities (European and US ones alike). A big fence in the center is re-painted every day during the term. Students crash in a tent next to it (to guard it) - a beloved tradition. I've seen students handing out "dogs for rent", and also a somewhat aquarium next to a ladder under a tree (an anonymous art project, surpassing the more permanently installed art). Most fish survived.
